Today in PE we practiced javelin throwing. We needed to make sure we were standing sideways, we were holding the rocket in our pencil writing hand, that we had bent muscle arms and that we bent our back knee. We had fun throwing the rockets and seeing how far we could go.
We are a year 1/2 class at Hope School in Nelson New Zealand. Our blog is mainly used to help us link to other areas to support our learning. We now share what we are doing in class on Seesaw with our families.

Description Writing
This week we wrote descriptions about a pirate ship and about a pirate. We had to use adjectives (describing words) to make our writing interesting. We also needed to try and use different words for old and scary. Read our descriptions below. Mrs Kern was very proud of them.
I see an old tattered pirate ship. Its colour is swamp brown. The water is rusty. Down the bottom there is a wooden hull. There are three ancient crow’s nests standing on rotten wood.
By Anna
This is a really fierce pirate from the seven seas. He has a shiny sword which is sharp. His mean grin scares me! I do not like his sticky up string beard. What muddy teeth he has! YUCK, that’s really smelly breath! There is a light brown rope swung over his neck.
By Anna
Standing on the water beside an island there is a ship. This ship is ancient and rusty. It has dirty rusty windows. This is a colossal ship with a colossal hull. There are three crow’s nests. If it’s ancient there has to be some skeletons!
By Logan
On a ship, there is a pirate. His eye patch is a black as Night Fury. He has a sword as bright as a star. His hat had a frightening skull with two bones. His shirt was ripped and dirty. His teeth are green and mucky.
By Logan
On the rusty water floats an ancient ship. The colour was swamp brown. It was a colossal ship with rotten prehistoric crow’s nests that snapped. The hull was spooky and the wires were shot.
By Lincoln
Here stands a mean pirate with yellow eyes and rotten green teeth. He has a black as night eye patch. His beard is scruffy. If he is an ancient pirate he must belong to the ship. His cloak is mucky, he needs to wash it. He has a wicked grin.
By Lincoln
There is a floating colossal ship in dirty rusty water. On a rotten old deck stood three rusty ancient crow’s nests. Wow, I see worn out port holes. On the back of the ship there is a wobbly plank.
By Matilda
There stands a mean scruffy pirate. He has a mean grin. In one hand, he has a sharp silver cutlass. He has fungi in his green teeth because he has never ever brushed his teeth. On one eye is a crooked eye patch. From his wrinkled face hangs a black scruffy beard. Around his should hangs a piece of rope.
By Matilda
The ship is rusty and when it gets fixed it can sail across the sea.
By Jaxon
He is smelly and gross. Why is he gross?
By Jaxon
The ship will sink if more pirates come on the old rusty ship.
By Noah
The pirate is old.
By Noah
The rope is smelly. The pirate ship will sink if it goes into rocks.
By Jonathan
It’s a big boat in the rusty water. The sails are gone.
By Navarah
I can see a pirate with dreads and a yucky beard. Phoo-ee it stinks! He has a yucky raggy t-shirt.
By Navarah
Floating on the sea I see a colossal rusty ship. It’s got old slimy rope and big crow’s nests sitting at the top of the ancient poles. I think it’s spooky.
By Eva
Standing on a pirate ship stands a spooky pirate. The pirate has a ragged shirt with a creepy skull on a hat as black as night. His dagger is a deathly one. He’s got a shaggy beard.
By Eva
The boat gently floats on the rusty water. The boat might have ghosts in the boat! It is dark black. “Whoooo”. Did you hear that? There must be ghosts in the boat!
By Stella
I can see a big black patch. He has stinky yucky breath, yuck! I can see a black scratchy beard.
By Stella
I saw a raggedy old ship wreck. It was prehistoric. It looks like a statue. I saw slimy poles slithering, lithering and crawling worms around the ship. If the pirates saw the worms they would go like this “aarrr me hearties”. There’s a big hole like a worm but it’s black.
By Edie
I can see an old man, one old man with a bushy beard. A man with a shiny super sword and stringy hair.
By Edie
I can see rusty water. This ship is rusty.
By Hahn
I can see danger by me. The pirate is dangerous.
By Hahn

By Zoe
I can see silver rope.
