Learning about ANZAC Day

Over the last week we have been learning about ANZAC Day in Room 4. Today we were very lucky to have John come along and share war items he has collected over the past years from friends and family. John brought along some very old things and he was able to share stories about the people who had owned some of them. We really enjoyed learning more about what ANZAC Day represents. Thank you John!!!

Problem Solving

In this maths session we were helping the King. He was having a party for his daughter and needed to make towers for his guests to stay in. We had 10 cubes and our 1 rule was that none of the towers could be the same size. We found lots of different ways the King could build his towers.

Maths Fun

On Fridays we are given a maths problem to solve in pairs. To solve the problem we have to cooperate, think (problem solve) and talk with our buddy. The photos below show us working. We had to put 8 skyscrapers onto a 4x4 grid. We weren't allowed to have 3 or more skyscrapers on any one line. If we found a solution Miss Shaw would shake the  sheet and challenge us to find another solution. Some of us came up with 2 or 3 solutions.

Yay, buddy reading has started!!!

The Book with No Pictures

Chloe shared her favourite book with us. It is called 'The Book With No Pictures'. She read it to us and we were amazed at how much we laughed, especially because the book really had no pictures! We think you should have a look at this book if you get the chance.

Making Better Choices

We decided that last week some of the choices we made during discovery might not have been the best and so we continued to focus on the choices we make. Today we could make sock puppets, pull apart machines, make hoop huts, experiment with magnets or make a cork boat. We were much better at making appropriate choices today!!!
